Australian TERF kicked out of French Hostel for Transphobia
However the booking site Hostelworld, supported the TERF, providing her with a refund voucher.
The Daily Mail reports that a traveller from Australia was shocked to learn that a trans woman was also staying at her hostel in Lyon, France.
The Australian woman, Cassandra, booked a hostel room and arrived late at the Alter'hostel on the evening of July 25. The next morning, she noticed a transgender woman in the bathroom and immediately complained to hostel management that a “man” was in her dorm.
In response to the complaint, the Hostel manager accused Cassandra from Australia of transphobia. The Hostel manager later said she was incredibly lucky she was not referred to Police in France.
“The guest was transphobic”, an email from the Hostel to Hostelworld, which was provided to Daily Mail by the transphobic guest, revealed.
“Her personal opinion on the subject does not matter. In France, being transphobic is prohibited by law. She clearly refused to admit this person was a woman.”
“What she did not mention is that the "man" that was in the bathroom was a woman (man who transitioned to woman so identifying as a woman which mean she IS a woman).” The hostel manager’s email continued.
Lucy From Naarm can exclusively reveal that Cassandra is a known TERF and good friend of Michelle Uriaru, who is best known for running extremely unpopular TERF events, “Women Will Speak,” in Melbourne (Naarm).
Quite pathetically, Cassandra complained that her hands were “shaking”, having merely seen an alleged transgender woman in the bathroom.
Cassandra does not allege at any point she was attacked or even spoken to by the woman.
“This guest is lucky we didn't press charges on her. We are not sorry for her as we do not tolerate such behaviour.” the Hostel owner wrote.
Hostelworld, the booking site Cassandra used, unfortunately, did not see it that way, providing Cassandra with a voucher for her stay, rewarding her Karen-like behaviour.
The guest also appears to have made a review on the Hostelworld website alleging, “I felt so unsafe the people staying there gave me weird vibes and there was no social aspect at all. The location was terrible too and was far away from everything.”
The Hostel has 7.4 stars on Hostelworld and is well-rated for its location and social life.
The Daily Mail appears to be foregrounding the most mundane stories ever about transgender people in order to stoke fear and division in the Australian community.
We are making enquiries and are encouraging the victimised trans woman to complain to the police. Hostelworld and the Hostel were contacted for comment, but neither of them responded at the time of posting. We commend the Hostel for standing firm for the transgender guest.
